The ThinkQuest Internet Challenge is an international program for students ages 12 through 19 that encourages them to use the Internet to create information-rich Web-based educational tools and materials. Three students from different continents worked together as one team in the ThinkQuest Challenge to create an educational website that stimulates and involves students to learn more about exploration.

Here's a paragraph from the Why Explore? section. See if you can guess the meaning of the highlighted phrases.
The quest for space has been questioned by some as a waste of money and resources at a time when global problems such as poverty have yet to be resolved. One theory suggests that the need to explore is an inbuilt genetic one - that it is part of our makeup designed to help us follow the most appropriate course for the survival of the species. This is an interesting proposal though it doesn't really explain why some will choose to brave the elements to climb a mountain while the rest of us keep our explorations focused on the far corners of our own suburbs.
