New Orleans

New Orleans is a major United States port and the largest city and metropolitan area in the state of Louisiana. It is well known for its distinct French Creole architecture, as well as its cross cultural and multilingual heritage. New Orleans is also famous for its cuisine, music (particularly as the birthplace of jazz), and its annual celebrations and festivals, most notably Mardi Gras. The city is often referred to as the "most unique" city in America.
Sadly, New Orleans is also known for the disasters which accompanied Hurracaine Katrina in 2005, when 80% of the city flooded.
Over the past few years the city has slowly been recovering and many pre-Katrina activities have been reinstated. Major annual events such as Mardi Gras and the Jazz & Heritage Festival were never displaced or cancelled. Also, an entirely new annual festival, "The Running of the Bulls New Orleans," was created in 2007.
